Colossus of Rhodes was one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient world. It was a copper statue of 33m height and it is said that his position was in the central port o Rhodes. Today, in this position there are 2  deers.The statue was a symbol in the name of god Sun. It was a gift to him, because he saved Rhodes from the fight was caused by conqueror Demetrius and his large army in 305b.c.
The statue was made by Haris,student of Lisippos.
Unfortunately , after a destructive earthquake, 60 years later, the famous statue collapsed and never stood again. It is known that the remains of the broken statue have never been removed for the next hundred  years.
But afterwards,  the story is not clear and some historians claim that about 900 years later in 654 b.c. the broken statue was cut to pieces and sold by Arabs for metal to Syria, after their successful invasion to the island, while other historians claim that the statue have disappeared before their invasion..
The Statue of Liberty in America,was based on Colossus as far as the size and the technique.
